In the last week I found and joined a new website called Wattpad. I’m slightly apprehensive but excited by the opportunities potentially provided on such a site.

What is Wattpad?

In their own words, in the simplest of terms, “Wattpad is the world’s largest community of readers and writers.” Well…okay. But, what is it?

“Wattpad is a place to discover and share stories: a social platform that connects people through words. It is a community that spans borders, interests, languages. With Wattpad, anyone can read or write on any device: phone, tablet, or computer. With thousands of stories added each day, there’s always something you want to read. Want a story about a daughter smuggling her zombie mother to safety? We have that. Want a story about a time-traveling frog with super powers? We don’t have that, and we’d be happy to see you write it.” (of course, now I want to write about a superhero frog who time travels!)

So, how does it work?

Honestly, I’m not 100% sure. I’ve added a work on there (some poems, not my novel yet) and I’m just now promoting that I have it (hello blog family!!) I THINK people can just go, find, read, comment, help and then I can reply, edit, share more. Essentially it’s Facebook specifically for the written word and without all the ads and games. 🙂

My Next Step

Well, now I get to go through and read other people’s works. And comment. And maybe steer them over to my profile.  Hopefully they comment. Once I’m comfortable, I’ll add my novel. At least…some of it. Maybe 5 chapters? Maybe 7? Not the whole thing, otherwise, who wold buy it?? But, enough to get feedback from other writers, from readers, agents, editors, and publishers. Hopefully…

If you have any experience with Wattpad, I’d love to hear from you! I really don’t know what to expect and I’m hesitant to put my “real” writing out there until I’m more comfortable with the site and the process.
