I met the woman I want to emulate in about 40 years. She was absolutely wonderfully perfect. She’s 80-something, a cancer survivor, married 63 years, gloriously blunt, uplifting to all she meets and exceedingly joyful. Her name is Margaret. And she made my life exponentially better in just ten minutes.
I’m feeling the gray skies crowd around and more than a little Eeyore-ish this week. I’m sharing an old poem that kinda sums up my heart at the moment.
Oh yes. It’s that time of year when people make resolutions…and sometimes break them. My plans, however, tend to be less resolution-y and more goal-oriented. And this year, I have just one big one – more ME.
Passion is defined as a “strong and barely controllable emotion”. Purpose is “the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists”. Do you know which one you’re living with?
Oh you love haters! We’ve all been inundated with the “I hate Valentine’s Day” naysayers, haven’t we? Complaints about the commercial aspects, how it’s a “Hallmark” holiday (which, BTW, it’s NOT. Do a little research, would ya?) and, worst in my eyes, the “I’m single and this day SUCKS” people. This is a note to you…and to those who love Valentine’s Day. And to even those who are ambivalent about it. Basically, it’s a note to everyone. 🙂
Oh, Victoria’s Secret. Usually I defend you without fail. I buy your high-priced bras because you understand that large-sized women don’t necessarily want to settle for “lightly lined” (read: ZERO support) bras or bras that are all function and no fun. But today you made me have a very uncomfortable conversation with my almost 13-year-old son. And I’m not sure how I feel about that yet.
This weekend I had the wonderful pleasure of being included in the 11th annual Wild Women’s Wine Weekend – and I had a blast!
Call it a midlife crisis or finding myself or just a turning point. But at 40 I’m starting to finally figure out I’m okay to just be me. And I kinda like who I am.
